Consultation for Clinicians

Individual and group consultation for therapists seeking EMDR consultation toward certification, clinical support for complex presentations, or guidance in building a private practice.

Who this is for

Consultation designed for where you actually are in your clinical work.

Whether you are working toward EMDR certification, navigating a clinically complex caseload, or thinking through the structure of your private practice, consultation is most useful when it fits the specific questions you are bringing. I offer several formats depending on what you need.

Licensed therapists seeking EMDR consultation hours toward EMDRIA certification

Clinicians working with complex trauma, developmental and attachment histories, or clients who have not responded to standard protocols

Therapists integrating somatic or parts-based approaches alongside EMDR and looking for consultation support on complex case presentations

Clinicians in early stages of private practice who want support building a sustainable, values-aligned practice

Therapists seeking personal and professional consultation from someone with direct experience in intensive and specialty trauma formats

All consultation is offered by Vanessa Simmons, LPC, SEP, an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and Basic Trainer with direct experience in EMDR intensives, somatic approaches, and solo private practice.

About the discovery meeting

EMDR consultation toward certification

What EMDRIA certification requires and how consultation supports that process.

EMDRIA certification requires completion of an EMDR Basic training, a minimum number of clinical hours using EMDR, 12 hours of EMDRIA credits, and 20 consultation hours with a consultant. The consultation component is not simply a formality. It is where much of the real clinical learning happens, particularly for complex presentations that do not respond to standard protocol application.

In EMDR consultation I am particularly interested in the places where the protocol gets complicated, where clients are not progressing as expected, where the history is relational and developmental rather than event-based, where the standard targeting sequence does not fit the clinical picture. Those are the conversations where consultation tends to be most useful.

What individual EMDR consultation typically covers

Case conceptualization from an EMDR framework, targeting sequence and protocol selection, working with complex and developmental trauma histories, integration with somatic and parts-based approaches, navigating client responses that fall outside standard protocol expectations, and preparation for the EMDRIA certification application process.

What group EMDR consultation offers

Group consultation brings together up to four clinicians for a shared consultation hour. Each participant has the opportunity to present cases, and the group format often generates perspectives and clinical ideas that individual consultation does not. Group consultation hours count toward EMDRIA certification requirements. Groups are kept small intentionally so that each clinician has meaningful time.

EMDRIA documentation

Consultation hours are documented and provided in the format required by EMDRIA for the certification application. If you are tracking hours toward certification, we can discuss how to structure the consultation process to meet those requirements efficiently.

Clinical and private practice consultation
Clinical consultation

For therapists navigating complex clinical presentations, cases that feel stuck, or treatment decisions that sit at the edge of your training and experience. This is not supervision, and it does not carry the same evaluative relationship. It is a peer consultation space where you can think out loud about difficult clinical material with someone who works regularly with complex trauma, intensive formats, and the intersection of somatic and EMDR approaches.

Private practice consultation

For clinicians in early or mid stages of building a private practice who want to think through structure, specialty positioning, fee setting, caseload sustainability, or the practical and philosophical questions that come with running a solo practice. I built Meadow Grove Counseling from the ground up while developing a specialty intensive practice, and I am glad to share what that process involved and what I would do differently.

A note on scope

Consultation is not supervision and does not fulfill supervision requirements for licensure. If you are seeking supervision toward licensure, please reach out and I am happy to discuss whether I can provide that or point you toward someone who can.
